Maurice Bishop (1979-1983)
- Biography: Maurice Bishop was the leader of the People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada from 1979 until his death in 1983. Bishop came to power after leading a coup that ousted Sir Eric Gairy. His government aligned itself with socialist principles and sought to improve social services, education, and healthcare. Bishop was popular among many Grenadians, but his regime was also criticized for its ties to the Soviet Union and Cuba. In 1983, Bishop was deposed and executed by a hardline faction within his own government, leading to a U.S.-led invasion that restored order and ended the revolution.
