Conch Fritters | Bahamas & Dominica
Traditional Caribbean Culinary DelightsIngredients:
- 1 lb conch meat, cleaned and finely chopped
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1-2 scallions, finely chopped
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Stir in the beaten egg and milk to form a batter.
- Add the chopped conch, onion, bell pepper, and scallions to the batter. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and serve with a dipping sauce like tartar or a spicy aioli.
