Grenadian - Style Bush Tea
Traditional & Healthy DrinksIngredients:
- 1-2 sprigs of fresh lemongrass (or 1-2 tsp dried lemongrass)
- 1-2 sprigs of fresh mint (or 1-2 tsp dried mint)
- 1-2 leaves of fresh basil (optional)
- 1-2 leaves of fresh thyme
- 1-2 slices of fresh ginger (optional)
- 2-3 cups water
- Honey or sugar to taste (optional)
- Lime or lemon wedges for serving (optional)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Herbs:
- If using fresh herbs, rinse them thoroughly. Lightly bruise the lemongrass and mint to release their oils and flavors.
-
Boil the Water:
- In a medium saucepan, bring 2-3 cups of water to a boil.
-
Add the Herbs:
- Once the water is boiling, add the lemongrass, mint, basil (if using), thyme, and ginger slices (if using).
-
Simmer:
- Reduce the heat and let the herbs simmer for about 5-10 minutes. The longer you let it steep, the stronger the flavor will be.
-
Strain the Tea:
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Strain the tea into cups or a teapot to remove the herbs.
-
Sweeten (Optional):
- Add honey or sugar to taste if you prefer a sweeter tea. Stir well to dissolve.
-
Serve:
- Serve the tea hot. You can also chill it and serve it over ice for a refreshing cold beverage.
- Garnish with a wedge of lime or lemon if desired.
