Cocoa Tea
Traditional & Healthy DrinksIngredients:
- 1/2 cup grated cocoa (or 2-3 cocoa balls)
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups milk (or any milk alternative)
- 1-2 cinnamon sticks
- 1-2 cloves
- 1-2 bayleaves
- 1-2 sprigs of fresh thyme (optional)
- 1-2 tbsp sugar or sweetener (optional)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
- A pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions:
-
Prepare Cocoa:
- If using cocoa balls, grate them to make about 1/2 cup of grated cocoa. If you have pre-grated cocoa, you’re all set.
-
Boil the Cocoa:
- In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the grated cocoa or cocoa balls to the boiling water. Stir well to dissolve.
-
Add Spices:
- Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and thyme (if using) to the saucepan. Let it simmer over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
-
Add Milk:
- Add the milk to the saucepan. Continue to simmer the mixture for another 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently. If you prefer a richer cocoa tea, you can use whole milk or a combination of milk and cream.
-
Sweeten and Flavor:
- Add sugar or sweetener to taste, and stir until fully dissolved. You can also add vanilla extract for extra flavor.
- If desired, add a pinch of nutmeg and a small pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.
-
Strain and Serve:
- Remove the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and thyme (if used). Strain the cocoa tea into mugs or cups to remove any remaining cocoa solids and spices.
-
Enjoy:
- Serve the cocoa tea hot. You can enjoy it as is or with a side of bread, butter, or other traditional accompaniments.
