The jail is a simple, unornamented, yet very imposing landmark. Prominent inmates included 1960s American radical Huey Newton, and Peter Demeter, a wealthy Toronto developer who was convicted of murdering his wife after a high profile trial. Three convicts were hanged in this jail.
